Madina is the second holiest city in Islam. It was to Madina that the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and his followers, faced by the hostility and persecution of the Meccan merchants, departed in 622 AD - and, when the citizens of Madina asked the Prophet to live amongst them and to arbitrate in their affairs, it was in Madina that the Islamic era began.
The most popular recreation area in Dammam is its corniche which stretches from Al-Azziziah beach to the Tarot Islands, it is a popular meeting place for friends and family. Many open air artworks dot the Corniche road as well.
